Youtube’s disgusting comment section wouldn’t have liked Percy half as much if it weren’t for Keyleth being a foil to him, and that’s the fucking tea.
Matt grabbing their relationship and discussion in the Whitestone bunker and turning it into a kid’s drawing of Vox Machina? Inspired and goddamn inspirational. And none of that would be possible without Keyleth.
I will stand by this eager, naive, traumatized young woman who becomes a fucking force of nature (Vax is right, it’s hot as hell). I will stand by her awkwardness and insecurity that do not stop her from being a leader and a champion of her people and chosen family. I will stand by this magnificent disaster who first cast Wind Walk in the middle of combat and an ineffective Tsunami on Thordak. I will stand by the excited druid who gets way into character while teaching Vex how to Speak With Animals. I will stand by her when things go horribly wrong around her and she is plagued with impostor syndrome. Because Keyleth is talented and flawed and brilliant and so very, very human, and has such a journey through this game.
And yeah, the two emo, edgelord male characters of the party? They would be insufferable without Keyleth and Vex both and y'all wouldn’t like them nearly as much without their presence in their stories.
And as for misreading spells? I’ve been playing d20 systems for 14 years and I still do it frequently. Matt does it all the time. If anyone feels the need to dunk on overworked, stressed, tired friends who are playing a game because they misread some information in their own goddamn game, they can go drink the sea. All the love to Marisha for playing a complicated class in a complicated system in a highly stressful, public environment and staying true to her character despite the levels of hate that have been (still! one year later!) leveled at her. She is so goddamn capable and brave.
This post started with my annoyance at the endless Youtube fangirling of Percy over Keyleth and turned into me ranting about how goddamn inspirational Marisha is, and frankly I have no regrets.
